What is a low-calorie fast food dinner I can make to eat while driving?

What is a low-calorie fast food dinner I can make to eat while driving?

Q : Usually, I don't eat & drive ... but this is a rare situation where this is the only time.
A : Make a variation of a burrito. You can get any flavor flat-bread or use a tortilla. Put anything you want in there. Lean meat - like chicken or ground turkey. You could even use lunchmeat. Pack it with veggies. Use low-fat ranch dressing or put in some salsa or hummos. Get creative. Once you wrap it all up tightly, it's easy to eat without spilling!

What are some low calorie/healthy foods that will be appealing to a 9 year old?

Q : Lots of fresh fruits and veggies obviously, but she'll get tired of that quick. So, any ideas? Meals and snacks are needed. Thanks!
A : A few ideas...

Sometimes you just have to "trick" kids into eating well! For example- buy real fruit juice instead of kool-aid.

A cheeseburger? How about using a wheat bun and a veggie pattie instead? Use baby spinach instead of lettuce on the burger. I've fed veggie burgers to my whole family without anyone figuring out it wasn't real meat! Turkey burgers, bacon, and sausage are even healthier than using beef too.

You can make Zuccini or banana pancakes for breakfast, they taste great!

Spaghetti with organic sauce, wheat noodles, and chicken or turkey instead of beef.

Make chicken or turkey tacos with wheat tortillas.

For french fries- instead of buying frozen ones, make some from scratch using sweet potatoes.

My picky cousins love sweet potato casserole too- to me it tastes like candy! You can alter the recipe and use less sugar.

Empty your salt shaker and start buying Sea Salt instead. It's so much healthier and it tastes much better (it'll be better for you guys too!)

Another idea- pizza bagels. It's a quick easy treat. I use whole wheat bagels, turkey pepperoni, low-fat shredded cheese, and organic Ragu sauce. You can add more toppings too like pineapple or green peppers.

For snacks.. have you tried celery and peanut butter? How about carrots and ranch dip? Cut up some oranges- citrus fruits have so more flavor than candy! You can even make a few compromises- cut up strawberries and bananas but let them have some chocolate to dip them in. Or how about Trail Mix? Yogurt is good, just don't get that sugar-filled stuff!

How about making the healthy food more interesting? Make a mashed potato smiley face with peas for the eyes and mouth! Get her involved in helping to prepare meals. It doesn't hurt to give them a few choices for dinner- but make sure all choices are healthy. She'll at least feel like they have more say in what she eats.

You may just have to twerk the ingredients of the foods she does eat to make it work.

What is a good low calorie meat based commercial catfood?

Q : Because cats are carnivores we avoid feeding our cats food which is based off of oats/veggies. (ie: no meowmix). We are in the market for looking for a light food which contains mostly meat based ingredients. Any advice/suggestions is greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
One cat is 19 pounds and is overweight. The other is not.
A : You're on the right track!

I researched and chose these two foods based on their ingredients and claimed calories - Nature's Variety Instincts and By Nature Organics.

BNO claims something like 150 calories per can which is excellent. Instincts varies by variety, but the venison I chose is something like 200.....more or less.

Poppy agreed to eat the Instincts but wouldn't touch the BNO.

But honestly, any good quality grainless food will do. You could choose any from the What to feed link and you'd be fine.

Here's some more info on weight loss you might find useful:
In a nutshell, most cats are fat because they've been fed too much (free-feeding or indulging them) and because they're fed dry food which is NOT appropriate food for them due to the grain/carb/sugar content. Cats are obligate carnivores who need to eat a high meat-based protein diet, which is also high in fats and low in carbs.

Many vets, who are sadly ignorant on the topic of proper cat nutrition, will recommend prescription diet foods (usually dry). Cats are expected to lose weight on a starvation diet of 1/4 or 1/3 cup of food per day. Everyone is miserable in these situations.

The solution is to switch the fat cat (and any others in the household as well) to a good quality canned food. Because these foods are species appropriate, the cat will lose weight at a safe, slow pace (no more than 1 pound per month). Switching foods needs to occur slowly, and if you're trying to get a kibble junkie to eat canned food, that will happen naturally.

How much should cats eat?
This varies. Average cats may eat between 20-30 calories per pound per day. But note that that is IDEAL pounds. Using 25 calories per day for example, an 8 pound cat could eat 200 calories per day. By the same token, a cat who weighs 20 pounds but should weigh 10 could eat 250 calories per day. You multiply the ideal weight by the calories to arrive at that figure. When working toward weight loss, it's perhaps best to start at the lower end of the scale (20).

How do I find out how many calories are in cat food? See the link "Values in canned food." If it's not listed there, you'd need to contact the manufacturer.....I believe that link provides some help there as well.

That's it. Easy as pie. Not only will fat cats lose weight, but it and any others in the home will reap many benefits of eating a speciies appropriate diet.

See the links below for detailed information on this topic.

UPDATE: Poppy lost 5 pounds and Sophie lost 2 following this plan (from October to October). Each cat gets one can (5.5oz) of Nature's Variety Instincts per day. No one is starving or miserable. My vet is happy with her progress and so am I. Only 4 pounds to go!

What is the healthiest low calorie drink to replace water?

Q : I am trying to lose weight and I put away the soda for good.

It's been very hard to just drink water solely throughout the day. I need something more pleasing to maybe drink once a day with dinner.

What should I go with?
A : G2
