You know, ever since I've tried diet pop, it's always had that horrible taste and I get migraines from it. This is not just nutrasweet and this or that. I'm talking everything but sugar, if I have a sip of it i can pretty much guarantee i will have a migraine within an hour. Is this still technically an allergy? And is there any reason for this like genes or something?

Answer
It's not really an allergy, per se, but more of how your body reacts to the chemicals found in artificial sweeteners. These types of sweeteners can cause some pretty bad reactions with some people and there have been some studies that show they cause cancer. What's a zero (or VERY VERY low) calorie food, without artificial sweeteners that is very filling?

Jake

Things you can buy only please.
No, this was not a trick question.
I didn't even know that vegetables were low on calories.
An apple has about 100 calories in it, that's a lot for fruit/vegetables, so I assumed vegetables did as well.

Answer
Celery. While not zero, it takes more calories to digest than is actually in the celery. So, it has a negative caloric value.

What is a sweetener I can use that has zero to low calories?

Ok it's for koolaid, and I just want to keep calories low to none as possible. Anything cheaper than splenda or a substitute that I can use?

What about stevia? Can that be used?

Answer
Stevia, Splenda, Truvia, Check out the baking section at your local grocery store. There are many now!

best low calorie sweetener with no headaches?

Kathy

I have been using the yellow packet stuff to help lose weight and just getting away from sugar, but I have been having daily headaches. Is there any low cal no cal sweeteners that say headache free?

Answer
People have different reactions to different sweeteners, so you will need to try them to find which one you do better with.

Your headaches might also be due to the diet itself, not the sweetener. When you don't eat enough calories, your body looks to other sources, first using stores in the liver and then using stores in your body fat. That's what you want to happen to lose weight, but one side effect of this process is the production of ketones, which will give you a headache. Make sure you're properly hydrated to flush the ketones out (but no need to go overboard with the water).
